Vernon Sylvester Boyer passed away June 4, 2021, after a courageous 9 month battle with brain cancer. Vern was born April 27, 1953 in Bertha, MN to Sylvester and Angela Boyer. He grew up as the oldest boy of 8 siblings which taught him to laugh, tease, work hard and help out whenever needed. He graduated from Park Rapids High School and Bemidji State University with a degree in Physics and Math. At BSU he met Linda Murray who would become the love of his life, marrying in 1978. They welcomed with joy their son Gregory and daughter Krista. He loved his family and was so proud of his kids.
They moved to Montana in 1984 where he worked for Billings Mack and Motor Power Equipment as parts manager. He loved Montana; he hunted, fished, camped and in later years became addicted to golf. He was an amazing woodworker.
Vern was a deeply spiritual man. He lived his faith every day, active in his church, KCs and the Cum Christo movement. The most important thing in his life was family. He loved his daughter-in-law Shannon and was overjoyed when she and Greg made him Papa. He adored Evan and Owen.
Vern was a strong, active man but life changed for all of us last August when he was diagnosed with 4 inoperable brain tumors. We promised each other we would make this journey together with grace, dignity, faith, and love sprinkled with joy and laughter. He kept his promise. We have been showered with love, prayers and kindnesses from family and friends. Our children and his siblings have been amazing in their care for us. Thank you to all. Thank you also to all the wonderful medical angels who have cared for us.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents and sister Shirley. He is survived by his wife Linda, son Greg (Shannon) and their boys Evan (6) and Owen (4), daughter Krista, his siblings Linda (Jim) Corbin, Bruce (Mary), Robert (Linda), Jane (John) Bond, Sandra (Jim) Schlies and Tammy Cooper as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Vigil service will be June 8, 7:00 pm at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Billings. A reception will be held following services at the Boyer home.
Vern loved helping others. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an organization of your choice that helps others, especially children or animals. Every morning he asked ‘Have I told you today that I love you?’ He would love you to tell those in your life that you love them. We will love him forever and always, to the 5th dwarf planet and beyond.

It's our honor to buy 3 trees to be planted in memory of Vern, given his scripture Jeremiah 17:7-8 and because he so loved the outdoors. We love you

What a beautiful sharing Vern's obit provided us. I have so many fond memories of Vern and I working on a number of Cursillo teams. He was a true blessing to all of us. My thoughts and prayers continue to go out to you Linda, and your family. I also have many great memories of your working the Cursillos as well as the blessing to be a fellow teacher with you at Central. Jeannie had a doctor appointment at the time of Vern's service so we were not able to attend. Love and prayers, Jeannie and Jerry Scott

Dear Linda and Family,
We are so sorry to learn of your heartbreaking loss. Vern's obituary is a loving memorial and shows the devotion in your family. We hope you feel some comfort from knowing that we care and are praying for you. Linda, you were a vibrant and talented Spanish teacher for our sons at Central. Bless you and your family.

Linda and family,
We have good memories of “building up the subdivision” with Vern. Whether it be the walking path, trees planted, streets paved, Vern was and will always be a part of it. We are very sad to know what he has gone through the past months.
Taken too soon, prime of golf years! Wishing you memories that ease your loss and love that heals your sadness.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to all of Verns family and friends who will miss him dearly. Vern was always a happy guy and we loved playing a round of golf with him and Linda. I always smiled when he would get down on the ground to line up a putt and was ecstatic when he made it. He will be sorely missed by everyone. One of the truly nice guys has left us. We hope your memories will comfort you during this time of grief. Our thoughts are with you.
Linda Brunelle and John Hosack
