Our loving Mother and Grandmother passed away on April 19, 2021 at the age of 89 at the Valle Vista Manor in Lewistown, Montana.
Lenora was born September 28, 1931 to Gust and Pauline Buchholz in New Leipzig, North Dakota. She was one of 11 siblings!
She graduated from high school in 1949 and married Lloyd H. Metzger the following year on June 18, 1950. Together they had three sons: Tommy, Calvin and Douglas. Lloyd passed away on July 10, 2004 after they celebrated 54 years of marriage together.
Lenora was a "Jill" of all trades, working hard her whole life. This list is only a small sample of what we remember. She was a clerk at J.C. Penney in Dickinson ND. After Dad transferred to Laurel with the railroad she went to work at J.C. Penney there until the store closed. She then went to work for Cliff Frank at his Laurel Southside store as a clerk, then to Frank's Meat Market as a clerk and butcher. After moving to Park City in 1971 she went to work for Marge and Leo Stepper at The Mercantile and worked there until it burnt down. She went from there to the Park City Truck Stop where she was a cook and waitress until she retired.
She was dedicated to her family, community and church, volunteering to cook, bake or wash dishes for about every function that came up. She was an active member with the American Legion Auxiliary Post 100 and held the position of Secretary for several years. For years she helped with the task of making poppies for the Auxiliary, making several thousand every year! She loved it when her sisters came for a visit (and so did we boys). There was always so much laughter, cooking, baking and more laughter, into the wee hours of the morning.
Lenora suffered a stroke in 2007 which resulted in her move to a nursing facility when it became too much for Tommy to handle. After Tommy passed away in 2015 family decided to move her to Lewistown to Central Montana Nursing & Rehab to be closer to her son Calvin. She then moved for a short period to Valle Vista Manor.
She is survived by her two sons, Calvin (Kim) of Lewistown, MT and Douglas (Fran) of Mesa, AZ. Lenora had 8 grandchildren Ericka and Rachel (Tommy), Christopher and Jeremy (Calvin), Nichole, Ashley, Andy and Nickalas (Douglas).
Surviving siblings are: Rosie Bussmann-AZ, Janice Froelich-SD, Marge Argetsinger-SD, Carol Friedt-SD, Dennis Buchholz-ND. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel, MT on June 29, 2021. Interment will follow at the Park City Cemetery and reception at the Park City Civic Center.
