Obituary

Jack Coward died February 9, 2021, at the age of 84 in Billings.

Jack was born in Lubbock, Texas, on August 14, 1936. He grew up in the Texas Panhandle, graduating from Amarillo High, Wayland Baptist University and Southwestern Baptist Seminary.

He met Linda Steinkuehler, his wife, at Wayland and they were together for almost 60 years. They were privileged to have 2 children and 5 grandchildren: Jeff and wife Kathy, their children, Connor and wife Loes, Montana and Killian of Virginia, and Kara Gaylord and husband Stacy and their children, Aly and Nolan of Billings.

Jack served God in many capacities. He ministered as a pastor, language missionary and a military chaplain (he served in Vietnam and retired from the military after 30 years). He was a college president as well as a chaplain for hospitals, jails, police, truckers and the pre-release center, Passages. He had a loving and caring heart and was always open to anyone who needed him or his God.

Jack was preceded in death by his dad Gene, his mother Aline, and stepmother Margaret. Besides his immediate family, he will be missed by his siblings and their families: Sue Thompson and husband Leslie, Bill Coward and wife Sue, and Daniel Coward and wife Bama. Many other relatives and friends, fellow LifeWay Church worshipers and co-workers will miss his quiet humor, his stories, his steadfastness and his steely determination.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 15, 2021, at LifeWay Church of Billings at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Terrace Gardens Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed on LifeWay Church Billings Facebook page, but all are welcomed to attend. Masks will be required.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yellowstone Christian College.

To all of Jacks family, I give my deepest sympathy to you all in the passing of such a wonderful man. Jack will be missed by so many. I will continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers and hold tight to all the memories I had with Jack growing up. From the children’s ministries “Big A club” at the silver bow homes, to children’s church during worship service every Sunday morning, lunch dates with him and Linda. The rides to gymnastics every Monday night. He encouraged and brought out the best in everyone. Much love to his family.
