Edna Yost passed away in her own home after a short illness. She was one of a kind, and we will miss her infectious laugh.
Starting at a young age, Mom was all about taking care of people. She took such good care of Dad during the time he battled cancer. She was always the person who took food if someone was sick or if someone passed away. She loved to bake and always welcomed anyone who stopped in for a visit with coffee and goodies. If you wouldn’t eat it there, she would send it home with you! She made the best German foods like grebel, rival kuchen, schnitz soup. And her great grandchildren think only she can make kartofffel and glace! Her home was truly where she was happiest and a place where all were welcomed.
Mom also loved to garden. She raised a big garden and canned or froze just about everything you could imagine (and maybe some things you couldn’t imagine). She especially loved to can tomatoes and share them with her grown children-- that was her way of showing her love. 2020 was the first year she was not able to grow a big garden.
Mom got a big kick out of her great grandchildren that lived close by and came for visits. They were the highlight of her day.
She was a 4-H leader for years, teaching many kids how to cook. She passed on a love of cooking and good food to all of her children.
Mom didn’t care to talk about life, or be philosophical, but she taught us by example that life can be hard--you just need to keep working your way through it. And she was a hard worker!
Edna was preceded in death by her husband Leroy. Surviving Edna are her son Anthony(Diana), and daughters Cindy Barnes(Tom), and Ginger Besplug(Neil). She also leaves 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren: Tammy(Daniel) Wildin; Shannon(Lee) Blackmore and sons Tarren & Wyatt; Jana Barnes(Walker); Brett Barnes(Ali) and children Simone, Brynnlynn and Davin; Jill Bishop(Graeme)and daughters Molly ,Adeline and Georgia; Chad Besplug(Crystal) and son Gus. She is also survived by her siblings Hannah Swecker, Bill Frank, Verna Walker and Maryann Cowan, her sister-in-law Shirley Wagner, and several cherished nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will occur later. Memorials may be made to RiverStone Health Hospice, 123 South 27th Street, Billings, MT 59101 or online at RiverStoneHealth.org/give
