Wayne Hofferber passed away at his home November 22nd, 2020. He was born July 6th, 1938 in Billings to Adam and Alice Hofferber. He grew up in Pompeys Pillar and attended Huntley Project High School. After graduation, he operated the family farm in Pompeys Pillar. He married Nancy and they had two sons, Shawn and Scott. After hard times in the eighties, Wayne sold the farm and moved to Billings, where he worked for Parker Livestock and Cole Construction. He would retire and move to his farm in Huntley, where he took great pride in building his home. He loved building things and was quite the engineer on many projects.

Wayne was larger than life and full of charm and wit. He was once given a jay-walking ticket in downtown Billings. When the officer asked him for his drivers’ license, Wayne replied, “You need a drivers license to jay-walk?” Oh, how that quick wit will be missed. We rest knowing he is sharing a great story in heaven with his best friend, Clem.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Adam and Alice, and grandson, Scottie. He is survived by his sons Shawn of Billings and Scott of Huntley, Scott’s girlfriend, Karen, who was blessed to be his bonus daughter and special caregiver. Grandchildren, Paige, Ceri and Tanner. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who cared for Wayne throughout his medical treatment, especially Marta Ostler, PT and the Nurses and Doctors at the Wound Healing Center at St. Vincent’s.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 3rd at 11:00 at Smith’s Funeral Chapel on 27th Street, with internment to follow at Ballantine Cemetery.

Wayne, this is your cousin, Elaine (Hofferber} Perko. You & I were born, only, two months apart, which probably accounts
for our close relationship... Family gatherings, during our early years, accounts for fun days but, as we grew older, we lost
touch except for rare occasions...Never the less, there was a special bond of affection...seeing you was always a happy
occasion. August,2016, in Billings, was the last time we visited and I'm so glad we had that time together. Your family, including
your very special bonus daughter, Karen, and other caregivers, are in our thoughts & prayers, as are you. Mike & Elaine

To Shawn & Scott
I was a sophomore in high school when I started working for dad. First job was pulling fire weed in the field west of house out by the highway. Worked my junior & senior year then started working full time after that till 1983. 13 years and many memories. Many more good memories and a few bad. I watched you both grow up while I grew up myself. I learned a lot from your dad. My work ethic came from working for him. I am sorry I did not continue my relationship with your dad after leaving the farm. I think he felt betrayed when I left after all those years of working for him. I had a wife and a young son to take care of and needed a better future. I am sure he understood as time went by.
One of my fondest memories was your dad getting me up at 5:30 AM. He would come into the bunk house grab my big toe and tell me to rise and shine. I was 15 years old in high school and did not like getting up in the morning. He bought me an wind up alarm clock with big bells on it. After that first summer I new how to get out of bed in the morning.
I am very sorry for your loss.
