Obituary

A private memorial has been planned.

Norm passed away peacefully at his home on November 13, 2020, due to complications from emphysema and COPD. Cremation has taken place.

Norman S. Bruce was born to Herman and Gladys Bruce on June 22, 1942 in Helena, where he lived until moving to Chester, MT as a sophomore in high school. He was a phenomenal basketball player and he graduated from Chester High School in 1960. After high school he began working at the GTA grain elevator and married Patricia "Pat" Seidlitz. They moved to Bozeman in 1962, where he continued working for GTA, then onto Huntley for 13 years. After that, they moved for the final time to Columbus. He worked and managed various grain elevators around the state for 42 years.

Norm loved all sports (except soccer) and enjoyed attending all the local sporting events. You could find him on the sidelines of a football game, or in the stands watching his kids play basketball and volleyball. He also loved fishing and hunting with his friends and sported his famous beard every hunting season. But anyone who knew Norm, knew that golf was his first love. He spent many hours down at the Stillwater Golf Course and was a fixture in local tournaments. If he wasn't at home or work, you could find him on the fairway, or maybe in the rough, on one of his favorite courses.

Norm always enjoyed a good cup of coffee. You could find him every morning, with customers and friends, enjoying some lively conversation. He never met a stranger and we can remember him driving around in the company pickup, giving the 2 finger wave to everyone he passed. He had a quick wit and was known for his great sense of humor.

Norm was preceded in death by his father, Herman; mother, Gladys; brother, Bill and sister, Barbara.

Norm is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia and his 6 children: Norlynn (Dirk) Nelson, Kathy (Ken) Adams, Janine Eoff, James "Buck" Bruce, Amy (Jay) Fortun and Sarah (Jeremy) Daul, as well as 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Steve; cousins, Harry and Shirley Heimbigner and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, November 21, 2020 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Columbus, MT by Father Navil Rodrigues.

In lieu if flowers, please make a donation to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Project Hope, both in Columbus, MT.

The family would also like to thank the great team at Compasses Hospice for their wonderful care.
