Kathleen Elizabeth Gabel Neibauer passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospital on Monday, August 31, 2020. Kathy was born March 3, 1951, the daughter of Edmund P. and Frieda (Scheafer) Gabel.
Kathy grew up on the family farm west of Billings. She was not a shy child, teenager, or adult woman; she loved to be around people and to talk and interact with them; that included her parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and co-workers. She loved to travel and was always up for new adventures, parties, and get-togethers with family and friends. Kathy loved life and all of God’s creatures; that love of animals was with her all of her life. She especially loved her poodles and schnauzers – Rowdy & Rambo. Kathy also kept the aquarium in their home stocked with unusual and prolific fish. One of her retirement pastimes was watching the deer, rabbits, and birds frequent the feeding stations around their house through each season. She also loved growing flowers, and it was indeed rare to receive a card from her without some specially dried pansy blossoms.
Kathy graduated from Billings West High School and went on to attend Montana State University (MSU). She loved music, excelled at singing, and was very excited and proud to have the lead role in MSU’s musical “Carmen”.
She resided for several years in Salt Lake City, UT, with her sister, Carole; she also lived in Phoenix, AZ, and then moved to the Los Angeles, CA, area where she resided for about 15 years before returning to Billings, MT. Upon returning to Billings, she successfully sold cars at Denny Menholt Chevrolet and then joined Floberg Real Estate/Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices as a fine home specialist realtor until her retirement.
She married Tom Pett Schieno and was later divorced. She married Jerry Neibauer on July 8, 1995, at The Little Chapel by Rock Creek Resort in Red Lodge, MT; they celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in July, 2020.
Kathy is survived by: her husband, Jerry Neibauer of Billings; sister Carole Baade (Mac) of Draper, UT; stepson Mark Neibauer (Tish) of Denver, CO; step-grandchild, Jennell Donnes (Darren) of Billings; Aunt Marguerite Michael of Billings; as well as many other extended family. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, Ed Gabel, Jr.; and stepson, Jeff Neibauer.
As per her wishes, she has been cremated and wanted no services. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers and because of her love for animals, donations may be made in her name at Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter or any other rescue/shelter organization.
Godspeed, Kathy. We love you, miss you, and wish you peace.
