James “Jim” Fredrick Erpenbach

Jim Erpenbach, 82, of Billings passed peacefully at his home July 18th, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born October 13th, 1937 in Glendive, MT to Mathew & Mary (Decker) Erpenbach. He graduated from Glendive’s Dawson County High School in 1956 where he excelled in football culminating with playing in the 9th annual East/West Shrine Game. Jim joined the US Army in 1958 serving for 2 years. Jim met Charlotte Churchwell of Livingston, MT in October of 1960 while both were working at the phone company in Billings. On May 6th, 1961 the two were bounded in marriage at St. Pius X Church in Billings. Jim and Charlotte recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
Jim retired in 2001 after 43 years as a central office technician with the telephone company in Billings. He enjoyed being an active participant in his children’s activities including their involvement in competitive shooting and as a hunter safety instructor and little league umpire. Jim is a survivor of cancer for 17 years.
Jim and Charlotte were blessed with 5 children, Cindy (Clay) Norskog of Springdale, MT, Danny (Bonnie) Erpenbach of Aloha, OR, Debbie Akers of Black Forrest, CO, Donald (Samantha) Erpenbach of Helena, MT, and Curtis (Rachel) Erpenbach of Great Falls, MT. Jim has 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren (+1 brewing).
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers Matt, Johnny, Ray, Art, Bobby and 1 sister Marie. He is survived by his wife, sister Kay (Leon) Sevier of Glendive, MT, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Dates for the burial of his remains with a grave side service in Livingston, MT will be announced at a later date. Donations in memory of Jim may be sent to the Alzheimers Foundation of America (ALZFDN.ORG), American Cancer Society or a hospice organization of your choice.
