Brandon “Brandy” Burns was born to James and Sandra Burns in Denver, Colorado on January 20, 1963.
Brandy soon moved to Billings, a place where most all of his relatives lived and could fawn over the “first grandchild”. Brandy’s childhood was radically changed at age 4 by his father’s death in Vietnam. This life disruption caused the family to relocate to Tempe, Arizona, where Brandy became interested in sports and found that his aggressive style worked great for football.
Moving back to Billings as a sophomore at West High, Brandy found his forever friends and embraced the Montana lifestyle, even becoming a partner in a fly tying business. Brandy joined the Air Force shortly after high school and saw the world, but always wanted to get back to his home state. He did return to Montana where he became the father of Brenna and Tyler, and eventually became the proud uncle of Cameron and Sydney Burns. Brandy seemed to find joy later in life, entering into a relationship with his partner, Josh Rustad.
Brandy is preceded in death by his mother, father and grandparents. Brandy will be laid to rest next to his mom and maternal grandparents, and just across the street from his paternal grandparents. Family was always important to him, even when he couldn’t find the words.
Brandy is survived by his partner, Josh, brother Brett, children Brenna and Tyler, niece and nephew Cameron and Sydney, along with many other friends and relatives who enjoyed him on the journey.

I met the Burns family in 1979, actually it was Brett at the Will James Junior High cafeteria. Our mutual love of motorcycles and sports provided the basis of a life long friendship. Our commonality of losing our fathers as young children was a shared experience that it seemed only we understood. Then meeting Brandy and Sandy, they became my immediate extended family. Brandy grew to be my hardcore, "big brother" I didn't have. We all played high school football for the West High Bears and really were brothers in arms. Brandy was an extremely gifted athlete and very bright person. Most of us knew he had a bright future. But as life is, it will bring you to crossroads that sometimes are hard to discern. I know Brandy's military service was a dark time, one that I only can imagine the truth. I always respected his willingness to serve our country voluntarily but it came with a price. Brandy's life, I think, was a tough row but I also know he had happiness from his kids and the many friends and relationships throughout his life. If you were his friend, thank you. Though we were not in close contact over the past several years, we always had that family bond. I will miss his smile, whit and truly caring nature. I know he was in much pain and it calms me to know now that he is resting in peace. He is surrounded by the ones he loved the most, his parents and grandparents. Goodbye Brother.

I remember going to Legion games with Dolly,Alec,Brandy, Bret and my twin brother to watch their Uncle Doug play for the Royals. Brandy and Brett were both high energy kids that were adorable and fun to be around. Sorry to hear of Brandy’s passing. My prayers are with the family...🙏🙏 God bless!
