Obituary

David F. Shevela, 61, of Columbus died peacefully on May 11, 2020. Dave was born August 13, 1958 to Ron and Virginia Shevela of Glendive, MT. Dave is one of four children. Ron and Virginia had Lois Haggerty (Larry), Dave Shevela (Barb), Carol Torno (Craig), Miles Shevela (Lynn).

On September 11, 1982 Dave married the love of his life Barb and they would have shared their 38th anniversary this year. They were blessed with two boys. Luke Shevela (Raven Songer) and Ethan Shevela (Annamiek Frost), and two grandkids: Kash and Tyce Shevela. Dave held a special spot in his heart for Kash and Tyce. Dave had numerous nieces and nephews that he loved.

Dave loved everything about the outdoors - hunting, fishing, camping and 4 four wheeling with his family. He enjoyed being outside. As soon as the weather warmed up you could find Dave and Barb at campgrounds in Montana or Wyoming. While outdoors he found a new passion for photography. He would spend long hours waiting to capture the perfect shot of the beautiful landscape during any season or magnificent wildlife in or around the National Parks.

Dave worked at Sibanye-Stillwater Mine for 25 years and enjoyed laughing and joking with the many friends he made over the years. Dave was preceded in death by many friends and family. Dave’s other family includes: Mother-In-Law: Lucille McEntire, Brother In-Law: Tom McEntire (Linda), Sister In-Law: Sharon Brockway (Lee).

He will be missed by many but never forgotten. The family would like to thank all the staff of Billings Clinic and Stillwater Billings Clinic and a special thank you to Dr. Cody White of Stillwater Billings Clinic for the compassion and care he provided Dave and his family.

A public viewing will be held at Smith’s Funeral Home (Columbus) on Friday, May 15, 2020 from 1:00 pm to 6:00 PM and a private memorial service will be held for family. Smith Funeral Home will be handling all arrangements and memories can be shared online at smithfuneralchapels.com.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Billings Clinic Cancer Center.

Ok, I want to share a memory from 25 years ago. Those that knew my Uncle Dave knew his love for hunting! So imagine the challenge when I picked my Wedding date in the middle of hunting season. I had already planned on Luke being my ring bearer and I wanted Uncle Dave to be the Videographer...now how to break the news that it was happening in October! Of course he said yes to helping, but that yes quickly turned to why don't we pick a different date...lol Anyways with a little help from Aunt Barb (okay maybe a lot of help) they were at my Wedding and I have a wonderful video to mark my spe ial day! I did get lots of reminding for years about how he had to miss a precious weekend of hunting, but I also knew he loved being at the Wedding!
