On Wednesday, January 1, 2020, in the early morning hours of this new year, Joy W. Hunt, our beloved wife, cherished mom, and adored Gramma, returned home to that place of perfect love from which she came at the all too young age of 64.

Joy was born on February 28, 1955 to Betty (Treanor) Spint and William “Harvey” Wright in Billings, MT. She was raised in a loving family by Betty and Bill Spint whom she called her “little Momma” and her “Daddy”. She was always proud to be one of 11 children in a very large and blended family.

Joy’s name truly embodied her genuine nature. The joy she emanated in life was a gift to all who knew her. She always encouraged others to live their best lives and be true to their best and authentic selves. She was our cheerleader, our mentor and friend. She taught us to love one another, be respectful, look for the good in all things, and to show gratitude for all things but especially for each other.

Joy had a passion for fitness and shared that passion with so many. She started teaching aerobics in the early 80’s where her smile and energy were nothing short of inspiring. She had an incredible ability to motivate and encourage all with her positive “can do” attitude and infectious smile. She taught fitness classes, was a personal trainer, and modeled for nearly 30 years including a title as Mrs. Photogenic and 1st runner up in Mrs. Montana in 1984. After retiring to the mountains, you could find her out on the trails with her close friends, family, and puppies cross country skiing, hiking, and going on daily “puppy trots”. Joy was an avid cross country skier, downhill skier, and snowmobiler and shared those passions with her husband, kids, grand-kids, nieces and nephews.

In 1999, Joy met and married the love of her life, whom she called “My Joel”. They enjoyed more than 20 beautiful years together. In 2003 they started building their cabin, aka her “happy place”, in the Crazy Mountains of Montana where so many family memories were made and some of her dearest friends gathered over the years. In 2006, after retiring from her career as both a paralegal secretary and fitness instructor, Joy and Joel built and moved into their dream home in Red Lodge, Montana and shared it lovingly with all friends and family. To Joy, everyone was thought of as a friend or family member.

Joy is survived by her best friend and devoted husband, Joel Hunt of Red Lodge, her 3 loving children who were her pride and joy: son Chad Abbey and wife, Michelle, of Billings, her daughter Jennifer Hudson and husband, Jason, of Billings, and her daughter Summer Peterson and husband, Drew McManus, of Red Lodge. She is also survived by her 8 cherished grandchildren: Kobi, Kyra Joy, Caiden, Chase, Colden, Chloe Jean, Chance and Malachi; her sisters Holly, Cokie, Susan, Billee, and Jody, and brothers Bill, Mike, and Jack, as well as many loved nieces and nephews - too numerous to count.

We know there was a joyous celebration in Heaven on New Years day when Joy returned home to her loving parents and family who were awaiting her return.

“Mom, you will be thought of in every hug we give and every 'I love you' that we speak. We’ll love you more and then some and always a little bit more, forever.”

A celebration of life will be held at St. Agnes Catholic Church, at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, in Red Lodge, MT with a reception to follow.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the charity of your choosing. Joy faithfully donated $50 to a variety of charities every month.
