Carol May Kirmis (Nelson) died peacefully in her home October 22, 2019 surrounded by her family. Diagnosed in November 2018 with GBM she finally succumbed to her short battle with brain cancer.

Carol was born May 15, 1952 in Hallock, MN to Howard and Bernice Homstad. She married Darrel Nelson in 1970. They moved to Thief River Falls, MN where Carol started working at Northern State Bank. She quickly moved into the insurance department. She remained in insurance until she retired in 2009 from Jeff Boyd State Farm in Billings, MT. She married Harold Kirmis in 1998. They lived in a variety of areas, lastly residing in Billings, MT.
Carol loved spending hours outside in the summer months with her flowers and plants. She also had a special love for the beaches of Alabama with many family trips. Carol is remembered as a kind, gentle, loyal and loving Mother, Grandmother and Friend. She is deeply missed but her dynamic presence lives on every day.
Carol is survived by her husband Harold, her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Tim Holmstrom of Crestwood, KY; daughter, Sharon Joramo of Billings, MT; two stepdaughters, Beth Kirmis of Fargo, ND and Erin and Tim Stein of Rochester, MN; sister, Bev Lease of Littleton, CO; brother, Wayne Homstad (Wanda) of Waseka, MN; brother Dean Homstad (Danielle) of Knox City, TX; and four grandchildren; Chase and Trevor Holmstrom, Jayah Nelson, Kylie Stein; and fur babies.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Bernice Homstad; brother-in-law, Darrel Lease, and grandson, Kjad Alan Joramo.
In celebration of Carol’s beautiful life, you are invited to her home at 5221 Millstone Circle, Billings, MT 59106 on October 26, 2019 from 3-5 pm. Prayer service will be held at 3:30 pm.
