Obituary

Christena Bell Weeks was called home to be with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on September 9, 2019. She was 93.
Christena was born in Omsted County, Minnesota on Feb. 5, 1926 to Henry and Mary Weeks.
Chris was lead to Jesus Christ by her mother at the age of 8. Gospel Teams strengthened her faith during her teen years while at Bible Camp. After high school graduation, the Lord spoke to her about going to Bible School. A small scholarship was provided so she enrolled and graduated from Kansas City Bible College (now Calvary Bible College). During her freshman year God spoke to her abut missions in French Sudan (now Mali Republic in West Africa). After serving in her home church in Oklahoma City, she came to Billings, Montana and served in the Church of The Air (later it became Billings Bible Church) and the Montana Gospel Crusade, serving in Christian Education, and in children and youth work. She served in Billings from 1950-1955.
For the next 35 years Chris was in Mali Republic, West Africa, teaching children, sharing the Gospel and loving the Bambara people. After retiring from foreign field service, Chris returned to Billings and became an “on staff” church missionary encouraging young people to think about missions, leading individuals to Christ, visiting senior citizens in their homes and nursing homes, & teaching Sunday School.
In 2014 Christena moved to Shipps Assisted Living Home in Absarokee, Montana where she continued to speak to any and all who would listen about her Savior, Jesus Christ.
As Christena’s mounting medical difficulties became more serious she moved to Eagle Cliff Manor in Billings so she would be closer to friends and hospital facilities. Twelve days later she entered Heaven’s Gate to look up her Blessed Savior for the first time.
Christena was preceded in death by her mother & father, & three brothers - Herman, Freddie, and Charles, and two sisters – Loretta and Geraldine. She is survived by one sister, Elsie, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Christena’s life will be held at Smith West Chapel on Thursday, September 19 at 11:00 a.m.
Suggested memorials may be made to Gideon’s International, Avant Mission, & Clydehurst Christian Ranch.
Special thanks to Compassus Hospice for their caring support and to Tess Shipp and the staff at Shipps Assisted Living for the warmth and kindness hey showed to Christena. Also a special thank you to Vivica Fischer for her endless efforts to help Chris in so many ways.

Some of my earliest memories of Aunt Chris happened when I was a little girl. Sometimes when she came home of furlough from Africa, she would come to our little country grade school (which had 8 grades in one room with one teacher),bringing her African "treasures" to share with us. She dressed us in African clothing & taught us to sing, "Yes, Jesus loves me" in Bambarian language. Which she spoke in Africa. As an adult, I have a preschool\day care in my home. By this time Aunt Chris was retired from the African Mission field, but still loved to share with others about the Lord. . . and Africa. When she came to visit us in Arkansas, I loved for her to talk to my "children" & myself about Africa. Many groups of my preschoolers have learned the song "Jesus, loves me" in the Bambarian language. Several times, we'd get a group of adults & children together for her to share the African culture, and her experiences there, with us. When we celebrated 25 years of my daycare (preschool) I was honored to have Aunt Chris & her sister Aunt Elsie in attendance. A few years ago we traveled through Montana & went to her home. We attended a church service with her & spent the night with her. She was a wonderful hostess! Now, a little humor: One time she watched as I sifted my flour. She said, "Why are you doing that?" In Africa, we only sift flour to get the bugs out"! Aunt Chris has her earthly journey completed and we will miss her.

Grandpa brought the mail in and set it on the table. We had a letter, a special airmail letter. The envelope was so thin and the words were written right on the envelope itself, including the flaps. It was a letter from Aunt Chris. Grandma carefully read each word, savoring the news from Aunt Chris. Another memory includes Aunt Chris being home for a visit. At the end of the day we would sit in bed with pillows propped behind our heads and read the Bible together. Aunt Chris read the words in Bombara, and I followed along in my English Bible. I was amazed at how the language sounded so different and yet I was able to follow along and when it was my turn I begin reading at the correct verse. She loved to teach the "Salvation of Jesus" and will be missed by many. With Love and Memories, Beverly Carter

I will always remember Aunt Chris for her service in Africa, teaching English. She was faithful and dedicated all her life. I love you.
