Obituary

Mary Katherine Pye Whittlesey

September 9, 1934 – July 1, 2019

Katie was born to Annsley and Mary Alice Pye of Cuyahoga Falls, OH.
She shared her childhood years with her brother, Stephen A. Pye.

She attended Ohio State University, enjoying her time in the
Alpha Chi Omega sorority as she studied Elementary Education.

Her first teaching position took her to Denver, Colorado.
There, she met and married Paul Whittlesey on December 20, 1958.

Katie came to know Christ at a Billy Graham crusade in Chicago
in 1962 . Soon after, Paul and Katie learned that they were expecting.
Katherine Brooks “Binkie”-Irish for beloved young one,
was born in 1963.

Katie and Paul were a wonderful team, working together
designing and building custom homes in Denver.
Katie’s contribution was her outstanding talent in decorating and
functional interior design.

In the 70’s the Whittlesey’s moved to Montana to enjoy the mountains,
open land, less crowds and more fly fishing.

Katie and Paul were proud Grandparents to Kelsey VanHousen (Providence, RI)
&
Jaycie VanHousen (Colorado Springs, CO)
Their granddaughters were the apples of their eyes, and
They thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow up
and making memories with them over the years!

As Paul endured six cancers, Katie was his sole caregiver
as she nursed him back to health after each bout.

Katie suffered with dementia for several
years before her death. She was never afraid to die,
and was looking forward to Heaven!
She absolutely knew she was going to
live with her Lord Jesus Christ
and rejoin her departed loved ones in glory.
She was very peaceful as she made her trip to heaven.
Her greatest wish would be for you all to have a personal relationship with Jesus!

A very Special Thanks to Karla Lamb
For taking supreme care of Katie
and for being her chum and “Warden” .
Bink and her family are so grateful Katie
could remain in the house Paul built for her.
Karla employed her farm-girl, tractor-driving skills.
Living in Rural Montana and enduring ROUGH winters,
is not for the Faint-of-heart!

Thank you Jim, Kelsey and Jaycie VanHousen
for your help, hard work, endless drive,
love and support as Grammy lived her last few years.

Grateful thanks to Roger Hartman for being Paul’s favorite buddy,
the fixer-of-equipment
and the heavy maintainer of the Whittlesey place.
Thanks for being such a dear friend, guide and supporter!

To Diana Martinez, your joy and love are infectious.
Thank you for caring for Mom,
and for the love and support and prayers in this rough season.

Thank You to Beartooh Hospice of Red Lodge
for you abundant love and support in Katie’s final days.
You are a wonderful bunch of people!

Tamara and Clarice of Synergy home care:
Thanks for your patient and kind care,
and letting Karla, Diana and me get some sleep!
