Carole Joan Dean Rodeback, age 82, of Billings, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, June 22, 2019.
To plant a memorial tree in honor of Carole D. Rodeback (Dean), please visit our Heartfelt Sympathies Store.
Carole was born July 10, 1936, in Shelly, Idaho; eldest daughter of Stanley Ridges and Eliza “Elida” (Adams) Dean. Moving to Skokie, IL in her youth, Carole attended Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah, excelling in Mathematics. It was there that she met her husband, Charles Hutchinson Rodeback of Chicago, IL.
Charles and Carole married on May 18, 1956. They lived in Des Plaines, IL for 16 years and then moved to Hampshire, IL, where they spent 33 years on their five-acre “farm,” where they planted, tilled and raised many children of their own, as well as numerous others. As a foster parent for 20 years, Carole opened her home and heart to as many children as DCFS would allow.
Always providing the best she could for her family, Carole first started driving local school buses when her youngest started school and then took on a full-time position as a rural mail carrier with the Hampshire Post Office. She worked 23 years, driving a 50-mile route through winter snow and summer heat. Never one to complain, Carole could be found many late afternoons until dark weeding some part of their acre and a half garden, canning in the green house, or fixing a meal for twelve.
Her lifetime of service, her love for her kids, and her willingness to do what was asked of her touched the lives of so many friends, family and acquaintances. Never one to be idle, Carole sewed patch-block quilts for family members and humanitarian services in her down time; gifting hundreds over the years. Carole is a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and has served her church over the years as Primary teacher, seminary teacher, Girls Camp Director, and Relief Society President. Along with her husband, Charles and their daughter, Cindy, Carole served a 3-year church mission as the Director of the Chicago Bishop’s Storehouse. In the last 20 years, she, Charles, and daughter Cindy, have served in the LDS temples on a weekly basis. Carole and Cindy have been members of the Alkali Creek Ward, East Billings, MT Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Preceded in death by her husband, Charles (6/18/2015) and eldest son, Charles “Dean” (2/17/2017).
She is survived by her children: Catherine, Barbara (Chuck), Cynthia, Daniel (Anita), Linda (McMuly), Steven (Lori), Paul, and Nancy (Darren), her 20 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to “First Time Temple” or the charity of your choice.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., June 27, at the Broadmoor LDS Stake Center. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The casket will be open prior to services at the church.
