Obituary

A happy celebration of her life – she had a unique sense of humor.

Sandra Kay Brophy passed away on Sunday February 3rd. Born April 27, 1962 at Rapid City South Dakota. In 1973 she moved with her family from Hermosa SD to Southern Iowa. In 1978 Sandy moved with her family to Laurel MT . She graduated high school at Laurel MT. Sandy was a talented seamstress, made most of her clothing thru high school.

Sandy loved her art work, enjoyed making jewelry and sewing for her boys. She worked hard at JC Penny store, Montgomery Wards, the Oak Tree and then worked 17 years as manager of the casting room at Shirley’s Ceramics in Billings. Her last five years of work was at Reese and Rays IGA in Laurel. She worked as checker and part time bookkeeper.

Sandy was married to Steve Leichner from 1988 until 2006. Together they had two sons, Kyle and Nickolas. One memory that stands out that demonstrated Sandy’s seamstress abilities and her love for her boys centers on the Crocodile Dundee show that came out when Kyle was about 4 years old. She constructed a toy crocodile that was larger than Kyle. He would spend hours wrestling with the crocodile. This was just many of the fun and creative things that Sandy would do for her boys and others.

Sandy is survived by her sons, Kyle and Nicholas; her mother Shirley Brophy; 3 Brothers Cliff, Kenny (Mary) and Steve (Kim); numerous cousins; many nieces and one nephew. Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Terril Brophy.

Services will be held at Smith’s Funeral Chapel in Laurel MT on Monday February 11th at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place following the service at the Laurel cemetery.

We are deeply sorry for your loss and wish you peace and comfort during this difficult time. We have such fond memories of Sandy. She was a kind and caring person with a quick wit and lovely disposition. And clever in so many ways. From her artistic abilities in ceramic works and expertise as a seamstress to her amazing ability to write and tell an entertaining and quite funny story. I still smile when I read "The Legend of the Who-Squirrel " that Sandy wrote a number of years ago. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Deborah Leichner and Joe DeMarco

Our sincere condolences to the family. When our loved ones fall asleep in death, words alone cannot ease the pain of our loss. The Bible helps us to deal with our grief (2 Corinthians 1:3, 4). We can also find hope from Jesus words at John 5:28, 29 “The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.” I hope these scripture bring comfort and calmness of heart to you during the difficult days ahead. I’m very sorry for your loss, please accept my sincere condolences. Grief can be so hard especially the first year and though it may seem like death is the final state of things God’s word offers the hope of seeing those lost in death again during the promised resurrection. Christ spoke of this resurrection which means a standing back up, a restoration to life. At John 5:28,29 and John 6:40 he says in part “do not marvel at this there is going to be a resurrection...I will resurrect him on the last day”. So be assured you can be reunited with your loved one at a time when all things are made new. A time of true peace and security! You can read this at Psalms 37:10,11,29 and Revelation 21:4,5. There are many more heartwarming scriptures that give comfort and hope. For more please visit jw.org
