On Tuesday, January 29, 2019, Walter Dean Miller, 91, of Columbus (previously of Rockvale) was called to Heaven to join his son Ray and to be in the loving arms of his mother. He was born on April 30, 1927, in Kansas City, Missouri to Walter and Carrie Miller. He grew up in a family with 9 brothers and sisters during the depression years. He joined the Navy in 1944 to serve his country. After his time spent in the Navy, he moved to Montana where he met and married his sweetheart Mary Yates and they had four children. Dean worked at the Chrome Mine for a few years but then ventured in to a life as a commercial painter. He continued to work as a painter until he was 82 years old. He lived with his family at Rockvale for nearly 44 years. In 2017, he and Mary moved to Columbus.
Dean was a very soft spoken, kind and gentle man. His most prize possession was his family and the time he spent with them. He was a self-taught musician and he played the guitar, fiddle, mandolin and harmonica. He also loved singing with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of 64 years. His daughters; Joy Brown (Michael) CA, Nancy Wright (Bodie) ID, Shari Smith (Tim) WA. Grandchildren; Darryl (Sarah), Mark, Daniel (Jennifer), Jeremy (Lori), Michael, Ryan (Taby) and 8 great grandchildren; his sister Roberta and brother Roy, sister-in-law's Sue and Katherine and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his son Ray, his parents Walter and Carrie, and his brothers and sisters; Ellen, Bonnie, Myrle, Claude, Pierce, Clifford and Dale.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be dearly missed. He lived a long and happy life.

My father-in-law Dean was the best I could have hoped for.I will treasure the memories of helping him irrigate, the day I sharpened his chain saw, happy days playing guitar together, teaching my kids how to ice skate on his pond. Cried my eyes out at his funeral, and I hope he wasn't too embarrassed of me for it. I sure loved that old man. Good-bye, Dad...

Condolences and prayers to the family. My brother Duane and nephew Michael always talked highly of your dad; they enjoyed working with him so much, and they miss his hard work ethic. There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they are gone, the light remains. I think it will be that way with Walt. Hugs to all.
