Gary A. Pfaff (78) of Billings, MT, suffered a massive stroke while golfing with his ‘brothers’ of the Chiropractic Knights of the Roundtable on a sunny Wednesday, January 23, 2019 and went to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2019 with his loving family at his side.

Born September 20, 1940, in Aberdeen S.D, he joyfully grew up in Oakes, ND. His parents relocated to Billings, MT, in 1957 when he was a junior in high school. He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1958. After a not-so-successful attempt to study architecture at Montana State University, Gary talked with a family friend and chiropractor and was intrigued. Soon after, he enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA , where he succeeded in attaining a Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1963 and met his beautiful bride- to- be, Marlene. After completing his primary enlistment duties in the US Army Reserve, Gary and Marlene were married in 1965 and relocated to Laurel, MT, where they opened the Pfaff Chiropractic Clinic, a staple of the health of the town, county, state and surrounding area for 46 years. During that time he contributed to the success of the community in a number of ways, including:

• Laurel Jaycees (Past President), JCI Senator
• Laurel Golf Club (Past President, 50-year and Charter Member)
• Laurel Chamber of Commerce (Past President)
• 50-year Member and Past Worshipful Master of Corinthian Lodge #72, AF&AM
• Laurel United Methodist Church (50-year member, Choir member)
• Twenty-five year Member and three-time Worthy Patron of Zidonian Chapter #50, Order of the Eastern Star

Gary also played a significant role in the advancement of Chiropractic regionally as well as nationally. He always believed Chiropractic was never his “job,” it was a privilege-one he took very seriously. His Christian faith set the foundation for his service and commitment to helping others.

During his career he was:
• Awarded a Fellowship and 43-year Member of the Gonstead Clinical Studies Society (Wisconsin)
• Yellowstone and Montana Chiropractic Associations Board Member
• 2011 Montana Chiropractor of the Year
• Montana Chiropractic Hall of Fame Inductee, 2018
• Chiropractic Knights of the Roundtable (Chairman)
• Field Faculty Member for Northwestern University of Health Sciences (Minnesota), Palmer College of Chiropractic (Iowa) and Life Chiropractic (Atlanta)

In his limited spare time, Gary could be found on the golf course with many friends, swinging his clubs in the backyard, or practicing his putts on a homemade green. His love of the sport took him to many courses in Montana, the lower 48 states, and even into Canada. Gary was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos and MSU Bobcats, enjoyed swimming, playing bridge, listening to all styles of music, singing in the church choir, studying the Bible with friends, trying to conquer or at least understand new technology – computers, printers, cell phones with the help of daughters Tracy and Theresa.

He was so very proud of, and loved every minute he could spoil the loves of his life, Marlene, Tracy, Theresa, son-in-law Lance, and granddaughters Amberlea and Maia. His love of God, devotion to his family, positive attitude towards life, sense of humor, temperamental golf game, and genuine care for people were his passions.

The out-pouring of love and prayers, for Marlene and family have been tremendous and we thank each and every one of you. We are truly humbled by your generosity.

1 Thessalonians 5:16 Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

I was saddened by the news of Gary. He was truly one of the "good guys". I first met Gary while working the doors of a World Wide function. What impressed me the most is how fondly the people reacted to him, and how much they liked him. I thought, "who is this guy"? I got to know him a lot better through the years as his patient and he was truly a caring professional. He set the bar high for his industry. He left a wonderful legacy. Denny Goodheart

Randy and I remember all the good times. Going to the Winery with you and Gary was a fun night, but the ice cream after that was the best. Gary was always ready to help or lend a hand. Sharing new things he had learned about RVing was always a joke at our house as we had been RVing for 50 years ( tent, trailer, five 5th wheels, 2 motorhomes) but his new found knowledge was appreciated. He will be GREATLY MISSED. Love you all. God's Peace be with you. Marsha and Randy ( Your sister Marsha and husband Randy)
