Obituary for Margaret Louise Forsythe (Rostad)

Margaret Louise Rostad Forsythe

Margaret was born March 18, 1922 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, daughter of Albert and Marie Rostad. She lived in Wisconsin until 1938 when with her parents and brother, Lawrence, moved to a ranch near Big Timber, Montana. Margaret graduated from Sweet Grass County High School after attending her senior year there.
In 1940, Margaret married Howard Forsythe, a true cowboy and love of her life for sixty-six years until he passed away in 2006.
Margaret and Howard had two children, Howard Trygve Forsythe and Sharon Ellis. She is survived by daughter Sharon and daughter-in-law Nancy, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Margaret’s life was full of love and adventure. Her early years with Howard and children were on a ranch in Paradise Valley. Later Howard worked for the National Park Service and they traveled all over including Yellowstone National Park, Death Valley and her very favorite was their time in St John, US Virgin Islands. While there one of her most memorable positions was as a florist for Caneel Bay Resort.
After retiring, they lived in Texas, Louisiana and Bridger close to her son and family and so enjoyed those years near to Tryg and Nancy. While in Bridger, they met many good friends and mom hosted a Bible study in her living room once a week.
Margaret moved into Billings in 2010 to be close to Sharon and medical facilities living at Chapel Court part of St. John’s Ministries for a time and making many new and wonderful friends with residents and staff. Then in 2015 she moved to the skilled nursing wing when she required more care.
Her family will always remember her wonderful stories, her ability to face adversity with a positive attitude, and her great sense of humor. She was an excellent cook and it gave her great pleasure to prepare a meal for family and friends.
God gave Margaret many gifts including a love and compassion for all people, her ability to compose and paint and most of all her ability to recognize each day as a blessing to be experienced. Her faith always gave her comfort. No matter what she experienced she always put a smile on her face and looked for the good in everyone around her.
Margaret went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 17, 2019. Cremation is planned and a graveside service at the Bridger Cemetery will be scheduled this summer and announced. Memorials are suggested to the Montana Rescue Mission, the Shiloh United Methodist Church Visitation Team, or the St. John’s Ministries Foundation.
