Dave has touched many diverse groups of people in his life. Many of us do not know one another, but our common denominator is Dave. We all became pages in Dave's story. He made our lives better. I too made up a few pages of Dave's story and fall in the old friend chapter. We were college roommates and he was the best man at my wedding. Dave lived his life like he was dying. He was fearless, loyal, honorable, selfless, and driven with inexhaustible determination. His moral compass was always impeccable and only pointed true. He lifted people up through encouragement and he was always a facilitator when helping to solve problems. Dave's life was interrupted too soon, but he simply made up for it by making every minute count. Dave lived an intentional and mindful life which led to many rich layers: loved by his family, cherished by his friends, admired by colleagues, and passionate about his career. He was a kind man of great integrity. Those qualities define a life well-lived and we should all be so successful. I am grateful for having been a few pages in Dave's story. I am thankful for his friendship which spanned 40 years. When Dave was close to the end, I told him that I would hold on to that friendship for as long as I live. Sometimes I will hold on to it with laughter as I remember him dancing at our toga party (circa 1980), and jumping so high that he knocked the ceiling panels out of place in our basement apartment. Sometimes I will hold on to it with a smile as I remember how he turned tennis into a full-contact sport. However, in those quiet moments, I will hold on to our friendship with tears as we said goodbye in his home this past November, knowing I could not change the path that he was traveling. Thank you, Dave, for all of those memories and for including me as a few pages in the book of your life. It was a great read.
