Obituary for Agapita Carranza Ojeda

Beloved Mother
At Rest and in Flight
For now you have gained
Your Wings

Agapita Carranza Ojeda, 96, of Oxnard, California, previously of the Huntley Project (Ballantine and Worden, Montana) passed away December 18, 2018. She was born to Isaac Carranza Reyes and Apolonia Rodriguez Garcia in the morning of September 20, 1922, in the town of Magistral Del Oro, state of Durango, Mexico. She was the 12th of 14 children. Because of abject poverty and the Mexican Revolution, Agapita knew only 6 of her siblings, Pedro, Felipa, Leandra, Federico, Juana, and Macario.
In Magistral, Agapita met and in 1943 married her late husband, Antonio Ojeda. Together they raised 6 children. Maria Guadalupe, Bertha and Alberto were born in Mexico. After 4 years of marriage, Antonio migrated to the USA looking for work. Ten years later, in March of 1957, he reunited with his family by bringing them from Mexico to the Miles City, Montana area where he then resided. Soon after, the family moved and settled in the Huntley Project near Billings, Montana, where they spent their life until Antonio’s passing in 2012. Once settled, three more children were born, Miguel (Mike), Jesus (Jesse) and Juan Antonio (John).
Agapita was preceded in death by her daughter Bertha of Santa Monica, California and her husband, Antonio Ojeda of Worden, Montana.
She is survived by daughter, Maria Guadalupe (Jerry) Weaver of Oxnard, California, sons Alberto (Susan) Ojeda of Tucson, Arizona, Miguel (Mike) of Richland, Washington, Jesus (Jesse) of Billings, Montana and Juan Antonio (John) also of Billings, grandchildren Amy (Reggie) Taylor of Amarillo, Texas, and Adam (Alysa) of Flagstaff, Arizona and several great grandchildren.
Her tiny structure belied a quiet strength and resilience that allowed her to endure countless hardships her entire life. Always kind and gentle, she selflessly put her family’s needs ahead of hers and continuously prayed for her family’s wellness, happiness, and success.
In Mexico, she made dresses for herself and her daughters. Here she learned how to quilt. She also delighted in her flower and vegetable gardens and in her kitchen where she magically created delicious meals, many times using produce from her own garden that she had learned to preserve.
Before heath issues slowed her down in her later years, Agapita very much enjoyed growing and tending flowers around her homes in Ballantine and Worden. Honestly we don’t know how she could stand all those mosquitos bussing around her when she was out watering her plants. She enjoyed the fishing trips with her husband that Jesse would take them out on, even when sometimes no fish were caught. She was happiest during the holidays when her faraway children were able to make the trip to the Huntley Project to spend time with her. She very much liked the holiday decorations that John would set up inside and outside the Worden home for Christmas and Halloween. The Halloween decorations usually brought several hundred kids to the house for trick or treat. That’s a lot of Candy!! She was especially thankful to Mike who took it upon himself to prepare the Holiday turkey. For some unknown reason, Jesse was designated the official turkey carver during these holiday gatherings.
Among her proudest days was the day she became a U. S. Citizen in the mid 1990’s.
Agapita spent her last years living with her daughter Maria Guadalupe and her husband Jerry Weaver in Oxnard, California, where she peacefully left us.
Beloved by all in life, she is already and will be forever immensely missed. May she find peace in her eternal sleep.
A Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Monday, January 7, at St Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Ballantine. Interment at the Pleasantview Cemetery. Visitation will start 9 a.m. Saturday at Smith Downtown Chapel, 925 So. 27th St.
