Omer Dean Van Luvanee passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital after a fall at his home and a short stay in the hospital.

Omer was born May 19, 1936 in Billings to Sophie and Clarence Van Luvanee. He joined sisters Ellen and Betty to live on the family farm in Pease Bottom, MT. He attended Rancher’s School in Myers, Montana through the 8th grade and then high school in Hysham, Montana. He loved playing and excelled at all sports. After graduating from high school in 1955, Omer enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii and Seattle. He married Myrna Hoovestal on October 13, 1957. Together they raised four children while he worked for the City of Billings in the water department. After retiring from the city, Omer continued to work at a variety of places including mail delivery for the US post service, Manning International and Mission Ridge Senior Living. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, attending sporting events and visiting with his many friends and family members. He truly had a special way with people of all ages, but especially with the elderly. Omer will forever be remembered for his kind and gentle demeanor.
Omer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Myrna, their four children and their families; Gary and Sophie of Helena (Lindsay), Grant and Sue of Billings (Callie, Chelsea and Bentyn), Greg and Julie of Harrisburg, SD (Maren) and Heidi and Shawn of Minneota, MN (Payton and Nolan) and his sister Ellen Parker. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty.
There will be an open house to celebrate Omer’s life from 2 – 5 pm on Wednesday, January 2nd at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St W. Condolences may be shared online at www.smithfuneralchapels.com .
