Obituary for Ronald Joseph Wayne

Ron Wayne was born January 15, 1941 to Joseph & Letha Wayne in Albuquerque, NM. Ron was shepherded into heaven December 10, 2018; far too soon for family to release him and yet- as ever- God knew his body was tired and worn out from the job he loved as a welder and artist, Husband, Dad, Granddad and Friend.

He is survived by his wife, Lynn and his cherished children, Joe Wayne, Elizabeth and (Mel) May, grandchildren, Elaine and Connor. Michael & (Shelly) Wayne grandchildren Erin and Izzy. He leaves behind his brother Larry and wife Joyce and many New Mexico cousins and dear friends.

Both Lynn’s father and Ron were union welders. Her Dad introduced them and a match was made! Within six months, they were engaged, married in what became a 49 years of life-long love. They honeymooned in Colorado. Both grew up in states with four seasons which complemented their family’s love of the outdoors- for any season. This New Mexico boy loved to camp, fish, hunt and play the harmonica. Laughter and love were generously dished out to family.

Ron became a Catholic when he married Lynn in 1969; Faith was forefront in how he lived his life and the examples he left for his children. His logical good sense, patience, forgiveness and acceptance of others were the many things he excelled at, along with his dry sense of humor and twinkle in his eye that gave his jokes away.

Ron completed two years of college and a five-year welding apprenticeship where he found a vocation he excelled at and was twice voted by his peers as top Apprentice of the year. He won first and second place awards in California and the United States in welding competitions. Ron travelled to many towns in Montana, Washington, California, Alaska and Canada for his work.

Ron retired from the Colstrip Power plant in 2003 where he was a welder/mechanic and moved to Sheridan, Wyoming. At this time, he started his business: Wild Turkey Forge, where he made beautiful wrought iron furniture, signs and whatever tweaked his interest to build. He also excelled at leather tooling, stained glass, loved gardening, wine making and bee keeping. Later, in 2013 Ron & Lynn moved to Park City, Montana to be closer to family.

Later in life he and his wife, Lynn travelled to several countries, along with visiting our French (family) Nicole, Nathalie, Djib Cerino and their daughters Elsa and Heloise. Ron & Lynn loved the contrasts of cultures but were always glad to be back home in Montana, USA.

Ron looked forward to being reunited in heaven with family: parents, grandparents, friends and cousins who passed before him. Of course, we cannot forget to mention he looked forward to seeing all the many dogs, horses and pets that he so loved.

We survivors were lucky we were in his heart and look forward to being reunited in heaven with him. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Smith Laurel Chapel, 315 East 3rd Street in Laurel. Condolences for the family may be shared at
