Obituary for Betty J. Kratz

August 11, 1925 – November 1, 2018

Betty June (‘BJ’) Kratz died peacefully on November 1st at Meadowlark Assisted Living in Columbus. She was 93, still ambulatory (with her walker), and in good spirits. She even took part in Meadowlark’s Halloween festivities just the day before her death.
Betty June was born at Beehive on the Stillwater River to Buford and Hazel Kratz. She was an only child, doted on by and dedicated to her folks. Buford was a well-known local figure in the Absarokee area, passing away in 1974.
BJ graduated from Absarokee High School, marrying Wm. R. (Bill) Morse in 1945. They made their home in Absarokee and raised 5 children: Randolph (U.K.), Steve (Billings), Mike (U.K.), Greg (Portland) and Debra (Tacoma).
Betty June loved learning and discovery. Travel and history were passions, taking her to many parts of the world. Having 5 children did little to diminish her spirit of adventure. On the contrary. From African villages to English castles and Greek temples, the world fascinated her to the end.
The family moved to England for a number of years. BJ loved it. Life was not always entirely smooth however and she and Bill were divorced. Later, she was briefly married to Jim Fletcher. She remained a resident of the Absarokee area for the rest of her life, with regular visits to England.
BJ is survived by all her children, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren, who will miss her deeply.
A service will be held Sunday 11 November 2018 at 1:00 pm in Smiths Funeral Chapel Columbus. Her remains will be interred with her parents at the Rosebud Cemetery in Absarokee. The family would like to thank the staff at Meadowlark for their extraordinary care and kindness towards her in her final years. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting
