Obituary for Gerald Ramon "Jerry" Granning

Jerry Ramon Granning passed away from complication of a traumatic brain injury on October 29, 2018. He was born on May 12, 1948 to Phyllis and Royal Granning in Plentywood. He had three sisters, Sharon (Mrs. Jorgen Jensen), Louise (Mrs. Jim Nissen) and Linda (who preceded him in death). Jerry had three children Ty Prentice, Brook Tenille and Beau Houston. He adopted two girls when he was married to Glena Bestland; Alanna and Billy Jo. He was married to Norma (Norwood Norman) at the time of his death and loved Andra (her daughter) and her family as his own.
Jerry attended grade school at Rock Springs Country School, and Medicine Lake 7th through 10th grades and Plentywood his junior and senior years. Jerry attended MSU in Bozeman from 1966 to 1968 majoring in Agricultural Marketing. In 1968 in joined the Navy until 1972 where he received 3 letters of Commendation and was stationed in Puerto Rico.
He came back to Bozeman and attended college until 1975. He returned to the family farm in Redstone where he worked until 1989. Farming was certainly one of the loves of his life. He managed Greytak Farm from 1989 – 90. He found another talent and was in sales until 1995. In 1995 he started building Log Homes. He also had a Karaoke Business from1995-2004 and announced Rodeos and other events.
In 2009 Jerry built his last log home and was living there with his wife Norma. Jerry and Norma owned a horse boarding business and Jerry was caring for the horses on the morning of his accident.
Jerry loved farming, golf, team roping and serving the communities that he lived in. He was a great fan on the Vikings and the Twins. As a young man he spent 10 years in 4H and later became a 4H leader where he touched the lives of so many young people that learned so much from him. While living in North East Montana he served on the Sheridan County Fair board, Saddle Club (president) roping club President, and MQHA President. In 1985 to 1987 he was Exalted Ruler of the Plentywood Elks Lodge #2566. He joined the Masons in Plentywood. After leaving North East Montana He was President of the Yellowstone Quarter Horse Association. In 2006 He became a member of the Al Bedoo Shrine in Billings where he road with the Black Horse Patrol. In 2015 he was Potentate of the Al Bedoo Shrine in Billings and continued to be a great supporter of the 22 Shrine Hospitals.
Jerry’s life was full and he has many friends. Many people adored him. He was a caring and loving individual. He was always there to give a hand to a friend or neighbor. Jerry will be missed and loved by his friends and family. He can now enjoy a place where there is no tears and no pain and only peace and joy.
