Obituary for Betty Lou Porter (Nix)

Betty Lou Porter, of Billings, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Morningstar surrounded by her loving family.   She courageously battled Alzheimer’s for many years.
Betty Lou was born July 1, 1932, in Mitchell, NE to Vernon and Hazel (Petsch) Nix.  She attended schools in Riverton, Wy after moving there at a young age.
In 1950, Betty Lou married her high school sweetheart, Bobby R. Porter in Riverton.  They were married for 60 years and had two sons, Bobbie and Dale. Betty and Bobby enjoyed spending countless hours riding horses, snowmobiling, camping and spending time with their family and friends.
In her younger years, Betty Lou was an avid bowler, golfer and softball player.  No surprise to those who know her, she was very competitive. She was a Den Mother for boy scouts, hosting meetings at her home.  Betty Lou enjoyed collecting bells, gardening, baking, cards with friends, and working puzzles with her family. She enjoyed being a Red Hat, and did she ever look good in purple.
Betty Lou worked as an administrative assistant, school cook, and a homemaker.  Betty Lou and Bobby moved throughout the Rocky Mountain Region, as Bobby worked the oilfields.  In 1992, Betty Lou and Bobby retired in Casper, Wy. They also lived in Cody, Wy and later moved to Billings, MT to be close to their family.
Betty Lou is preceded in death by the love of her life, Bobby; her son, Bobbie; her parents, Vernon Sr. & Hazel; one sister, Madeline; and one brother, Vernon.
Betty Lou is survived by her son, Dale (Ilona) Porter of Billings, MT; granddaughter Sarah Porter-Osen and great-grandchildren Payton and Camden Osen of Billings, MT; grandson Sgt. 1st Class Jedediah (Brandy) Porter and great-grandchildren Andrew, Connor, & Eloise of Billings, MT; grandson Derek Porter, Billings, MT; grandson Eric Porter and great-grandson Casey of Gillette, Wy; and grandson Levi (Amanda) Porter and great-grandchildren Harley and Cole of Rawlins, Wy; brother Fred (Darlene) Nix; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, wonderful friends and neighbors.
Betty Lou, we will miss your spunk and spirit.  Love and miss you, forever and always.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Morningstar, Stillwater Hospice and Dr. Castles of Billings Clinic.
Cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Morningstar, located at 4001 Bell Avenue.  Smith Funeral Chapels in Billings has been entrusted with arrangements.
