The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Thomas Hanel can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolence: So very sorry I was not able to make the services today due to a prior commitment I could not get out of. So enjoyed knowing Tom and have fond memories of coffee and cookie time with Tom and AnnaMae and our conversations before church at First UMC in Billings. Niece Joyce Mann, one of my congregants at Roundup UMC, has kept me in the loop on the health issues of Tom and AnnaMae and I have kept both in my prayers. I will continue to pray for AnnaMae and the family.

Condolence: Tom and Robin, So sorry to see that Mr. Hanel has passed away. It was such a blessing to meet him in Miles City when John and I bought his 5th wheel camper! He was such a kind soul and was so nice to us. Loved hearing his stories of camping. He had an adventurous spirit and love of the outdoors. May God give your family peace and bless you. —John and Debbie Morford

Condolence: We became friends of the Hanels when we moved into the house that Tom and Annamae raised their children in the late summer of 2001.

But, Tom and Annamae were more than neighbors to us during that time--they became family. When my job as a Boy Scout executive took me frequently away from home, the first person I had to "check in" with was Tommy. I was his "Baby Doll" but we had to keep it hush hush from Annamae! When my mother and sister died, Tom and Annamae were always the first to offer a loving word of comfort to me.

In short, I can never repay the gift of loving friendship from the entire Hanel family that they gave us during our time in Miles City.

God Bless you all and especially my dear friend Thomas Arthur Hanel.

Condolence: Dear Tom and family,

I’m sorry to learn of Tom Sr.'s passing. Your dad and I had several visits, including in the VA Clinic waiting room, sitting and swapping stories about World War II and Vietnam. He was a great guy who always had a smile and a friendly word. I know this is a profound loss for you, Tom, and I’m so sorry.

Your friend,
