Life Story for
Ireneaus "Arnie" Sticka
IRENEAUS “ARNIE” STICKA
Ireneaus (Arnie) Sticka, 91, passed away peacefully (or “went to be with his Lord”) on Saturday, September 8, 2019, in Billings.
Arnie was born February 6, 1927, in Dickinson, North Dakota, son of Leonard and Minnie (Ehrmantraut) Sticka. He attended school at Fromberg, MT. Arnie joined the Army in 1945, and did his basic training in Ft. Lewis Washington. He later served as a Staff Sargent in Japan at the end of the war.
Arnie left the Army and moved back home to marry his sweetheart, Violet Barthuly, on June 14, 1949. They worked next to each other on the farm for many years, welcoming four children, Larry, Eugene, Karen and Arenie. They retired from farming in 1991, and moved to Gardiner. While they still worked, they were able to travel and enjoy the many new friends they made. Arnie and Vi were able to return to Bridger to one of their old farms in 1999, but Arnie’s heart broke when Vi suddenly passed away in 2001. Arnie moved to Billings in 2008, gaining even more friends at the South Forty, and eventually Aspen Meadows. He found great joy in visiting with his family and friends. Arnie was a kind, sweet, and generous man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Arnie is survived by his sons, Larry (Wanda) of Bridger, Eugene (Susie) of Bridger, Arenie (Tina) of Billings; his daughter Karen (Mike) of Billings; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, his parents, and two brothers, Adam and John.
A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Friday, September 14, at St. Pius Catholic Church in Billings. Interment will be in the Bridger Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Pius Catholic Church. Smith Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences may be shared online at www.smithfuneralchapels.com.
