Life Story for
Florence "Katy" Dorow (Booth)
FLORENCE KATHRYN BOOTH DOROW
Florence Kathyrn Booth Dorow was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 8, 1927 and passed away at age 91 on July 4, 2018, of natural causes.
Florence, as she was called then, was a pretty little girl. It was the great depression. She began working at age 12 in the dime store for 32 cents an hour to help out her family. She was a straight-A student and never missed a day of school.
At age 19, she met the love of her life, Gerald Dorow, on a blind date. They became engaged on Valentine’s Day, 1947, and married on July 11, that year. Gerry not only changed her last name, she was known forever after as Katy. While no marriage is without challenges, they made a vow never to go to bed angry. “Sometimes we stayed up all night,” Katy said once, with a chuckle. They were happily married for over 65 years, leading a Christian faith-filled life together until Gerry’s death at age 94, in May, 2013.
Mom loved to play cards, especially Bridge. She was a great cook and liked to gather the family around her table for holidays and birthdays. God gave her a green thumb. Her perennials were outstanding and her houseplants thrived.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Gerry, and siblings Al Booth, Doug Booth, and sister, June Harbeck. She is survived by her children: Sharie Pyke of Billings and daughters Keri Pyke, Boston, and Jessica Piper of Billings, and her sons, Trey Vladic of California and Zachary Piper of Sheridan, MT; Dr. Gregory Dorow (Terry) and daughters Nicole Nieneber (Frank) and Natalie Dickerson, (Jared) all of Billings; Deanna Patz of Drippings Springs, TX, and children, Katy Mills, (Casey) of Virginia, Mary Mearig, (Seth) of Austin, TX, Julie (Brian) Thatcher of Juneau, AK, Joe (Christina) Patz of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Michael Patz of Anchorage, AK, and Stephen Patz, of Frankfort Germany, US Army; Daughter, Tammy Freeman of New Buffalo, MI, and children, Dani (Chris) Blosser of La Porte, IN, and Adam Freeman of Mesa, CA, well as 20 great grandchildren.
