Life Story for
William "Bill" Michael
William Wayne Michael, 82, of Billings passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018.
Bill was born in Laurel on October 30, 1935, the son of Phillip and Mabel (Ruff) Michael. He was raised in Park City and graduated from high school there in 1953. Bill married Joan Watson on April 4, 1959. They are parents to Valree Michael, Paula (Jeff) Mjelstad, Robert (Georgia) Michael, Matthew (Susan) Michael and Mindy (Brian) VanderVen.
Bill filled many roles throughout his long life; son, brother, friend, husband, father and grandfather. He was born the thirteenth child in a family of fourteen and remained close to each sibling. In high school he lettered in four sports and continued his passion for baseball as a volunteer coach in Laurel. He was a faithful husband and father who became a loving presence in each of his children’s lives. He provided for his family through his work at the Burlington Northern railroad for over thirty years. It is there he formed lifetime bonds of friendship that endured through all his days.
He was a good man in an age that needs more good men. He was loyal and devoted to his friends and family. He was ever patient and could be counted on to help, whatever the need. He was a strong man who was humbled in his final days. But in accepting that suffering, he allowed each of us to care for him and return a small portion of the love he had shown for so many years.
Bill was an avid fisherman throughout his life. The Stillwater and Boulder Rivers were among his favorite places. If heaven has a river, it is there at its side that you will find him. Standing on two strong legs waiting for his family to rejoin him.
Survivors include his wife, five children, his sisters Mary Krug and Martha Stricker, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, April 27 at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2055 Woody Drive, Billings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Compassus Hospice of Billings, 2110 Overland Avenue, Ste 111, Billings, MT 59102.
