Michael was born on Oct. 3, 1949, in Billings.
He was a kindhearted and generous man who would give anyone the shirt off of his back. Michael was a gentle giant who was compassionate, loving and full of adventure. He absolutely loved everything about the outdoors: camping, hiking and fishing. Michael had incredible sense of humor that he used regularly to scare all of the women in his life. He always did more than expected without ever expecting anything in return. Michael was an amazing father, role model and teacher to many of us. To Richard, his grandson, he was the single best male influence in his life. He will be truly missed and mourned by all who love him. We will remember him for the great man that he was to everyone he knew.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Knodel-Lanouette; his daughters, Heather Lanouette, Brie Driver, Krysten Delao (Angela) and Corrie Knodel (Peter); six grandchildren, Heaven, Trinity and Ziva Musselman, Tattianna Ulrich, Richard Ramirez (Tiah) and Azalea Volnek; and his three sisters.
A memorial service and a celebration of his life will take place at Smith’s Downtown Chapel at 1 p.m. on Dec. 1. Cremation has already taken place. His ashes will be spread in the place where he was the most at peace.
